Saravana kodandapani, M.D.
Dr Saravana grew up in Bangalore city. He
graduated from Bangalore Medical College,Bangalore University in 1996 and received
his M.D, from the All India Institute of
Medical Sciences, New Delhi in the year
2000. He was an Internist at Victoria Hospital in Bangalore
after which he served as a physician providing care to spastic and
disabled children. He then completed his Post Graduation with a
Master's Degree & a residency programme in Ophthalmology and then
a Fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery under the guidance
of Prof H.K. Tewari in Dr
R.P.Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences, All
India Institute of Medical Sciences,
New Delhi between the years 1998-2003.
In view of his outstanding academic career, Dr Saravana was selected
to serve as Registrar in Vitreoretinal services
in the Dept of Ophthalmology in the All India Institute of Medical
Sciences, a position he held till April 2003, when he joined
the full time faculty of The Eye Foundation,
and later on in December 2003, he became the Head
of the Dept of Ophthalmology, Medical
Trust Hospital, Cochin
where Dr Saravana was involved in training ophthalmologists
and post graduate students in Ophthalmology for the National board of
Examiners through Accredited Ophthalmology training programs.
Dr Saravana has been an invited guest lecturer at various symposia and
seminars and was involved in various research projects. His work
on "Quality of visual outcome after Multifocal Implants Vs Monofocal
Implants" was accepted for presentation at the American
Society for Cataract & Refractive Surgeons Annual conference 2004, San Deigo, CA, USA for a 7minute
guest lecture.
Presently, Dr Saravana is a Consultant in Ophthalmology and
Vitreoretina at Sri Venkateswara Nethralaya, Bangalore , an advanced
centre for treatment of eye diseases, where he pursues all his
clinical, academic, and research activities. He is also the
first Surgeon in Karnataka, India to implant Carl Zeiss MF4 Multifocal
IOL when it was launched in 2006. In Partnership with various Industry
leaders like NIDEK, AA, KLB etc, Dr Saravana has been involved in
research activities in refining various algorithms for Custom Lasik,
PseudoAccomodative Cornea(for correction of Presbyopia), and other state
of the art technology transfers in Anterior Segment and Surgical
Imaging, Video Overlay,Subretinal Instrumentation etc.
His current interests are Refractive Surgery, Lasik, Multifocal and
Accomodating IOL Technology, Low Vision Aids, Medical and Surgical
Retina. He is also an International Reviewer for various prestigious
journals like British Journal of Ophthalmology, American journal of
Ophthalmology, Journal of the Society of Cataract and Refractive
Surgeons, etc and has peer reviewed over 250 articles over a period of 5
years.
Dr Saravana is also the Founder Member of International Ophthalmologists Academy, a online professional group of over 1800 member ophthalmologists dedicated to seek, serve, share and support ophthalmologists worldwide.
Trekking, Hiking , Kite Flying, Reading and Classical music are among
his outside activities.Dr Saravana has one elder sister who is married
and settled as a Power systems Engineer with Pacific Gas and Electric
Company(PGE) in SFO, CA, USA along with her husband who is employed as
Child Guidance and Protection Officer with the FBI, United States
Govt.
Since 2002, Dr Saravana is happily married to Dr Sukanya who shares
his passion for Ophthalmology, and live along with his mother and
daughter in Bangalore, India.

advanced and complicated vitreoretinal disease including proliferative
vitreoretinopathy, diabetic eye Disease, Giant Retinal tear,
Endophthalmitis, Uveitis, ARMD,pediatric vitreoretina, ICG angiography
and optical coherence tomography.

Besides pursuing Vitreoretina and cataract, Obtaining extensive
experience in refractive surgeries such as LASIK, ZYOPTIX, WAVE FRONT
GUIDED ABLATION, at THE EYE FOUNDATION, COIMBATORE which is the only
centre in asia to have completed over 12000 refractive laser
corrections till date,
